Makino

Brief info:
A machine tool manufacturer
Description on website: "A world leader in metal cutting and manufacturing technology. A manufacturer of horizontal machining centers, vertical machining centers, wire EDM and ram EDM machines, and graphite machining centers. A software company and an application engineering company. On the frontier of Japan's machinery sector

Reflections:
Honestly, I have never heard of Makino before. However, after researching, I found out that it is in fact a top machinery manufacturer, with many innovative inventions under its belt. I was pretty impressed by its innovations and breakthroughs from the brief history on their website (which is not very brief). Of course, I am not an engineering person, and am not particularly interested in physics, hence I had little idea of what many of the innovations by Makino meant, but the brief description of them showed that they were top-notch. For example, Makino developed HEAT (High Energy Applied Technology) in 2006 which apparently increases machinery speed by up to 40%, an impressive figure.
Through the research, I gleaned some basic information on Makino and got a rough idea of what we would be going to see during the company visit. Hopefully, the manufacturing process would be an eye-opener and allow me to learn more about the engineering/machinery sector.
